In February, Fran Stevens joined us as a digital marketing executive apprentice. She’s been with us a good few months now, so we decided to sit down with her and find out how she’s getting on.
Why did you decide to pursue a digital marketing executive apprenticeship?
The main reasons for my interests in this apprenticeship were to develop my writing skills and help businesses grow as a result of my words. As a digital marketing executive your responsibilities aren’t confined to just one service. The opportunities to explore more aspects of the PR and Marketing world, along with the versatility of the role were the main pull factors of this apprenticeship.
What did you do before you started your apprenticeship?
Before undertaking my current role as a digital marketing executive, I completed my A-Levels at Sixth Form. This led me to study Journalism at Nottingham Trent University for a few months, before realising that an apprenticeship was better suited to my needs and aspirations.
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship so far?
I am enjoying the inclusivity of it the most. My colleagues were quick to involve me in stimulating and challenging tasks that have helped drive my progress in the field of digital marketing. I feel supported in my role because the team understands that with their assistance my performance and skills set will improve. Also, the projects that I’m set to complete change regularly which helps to keep me engaged and busy.
What’s the plan after your apprenticeship is complete?
Ideally, I hope to still be a member of the WorkPR agency. After all I have been taught, I plan to utilise the skills and knowledge I have gained by giving back to the company long term. With the engaging work tasks and positive working environment, I would like to explore more avenues within PR and Marketing with support from the WorkPR team.
What’s your advice for other young people considering an apprenticeship scheme?
I couldn’t recommend it enough. An apprenticeship allows you to gain real work experience which employers often look for when hiring. Understanding what it takes to work in a professional environment could set you apart from the next candidate. Not only this, rather than paying to learn you are being paid to learn. This feels as though you are being rewarded for your hard work and also inspires further independence as a young worker.
