This week marks National Apprenticeship Week. At Work PR, we are committed to supporting the future of young workers and their development, which is why we welcomed two apprentices to our digital marketing team in 2021. Meet Josh – who joined us as a digital marketing apprentice straight after finishing school.
Why did you decide to pursue a digital marketing apprenticeship?
I decided to peruse an apprenticeship in digital marketing as I always had a liking towards websites, computing and IT in general. Throughout school I chose IT and computer science as GCSE options, which then opened the pathway into digital marketing.
What did you do before you started your apprenticeship?
Before I started my apprenticeship, I was in Sixth form studying business and mathematics.
I never really enjoyed lessons themselves in school, so I decided that the sixth form and university routes weren’t the best idea for me – although I was able to complete one of my business certificates before I fully left.
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship so far?
The things I have enjoyed most about my apprenticeship would be meeting my colleagues, learning new skills, learning whilst also being paid, and having colleagues who help guide me through my learning.
What’s the plan after your apprenticeship is complete?
My plan after I complete my apprentice is to carry on in my role as a digital marketer, but I would also like to apply my other strengths into areas as well – such as analytics. Thanks to the apprenticeship and learning all the new skills a lot of doorways have been opened and I am looking forward to seeing where it takes me!
What’s your advice for other young people considering an apprenticeship scheme?
Personally, I think apprenticeships are the way forward – they are becoming a lot more popular with young adults now, and you don’t have to spend lots of money to go off to university.
I think that if I hadn’t of taken this apprenticeship I would have struggled to find guidance to a pathway that I would enjoy. Luckily, this apprenticeship has provided that guidance and built my knowledge and understanding of many different areas which can guide me to the next level.
