This week marks National Apprenticeship Week. At Work PR, we are committed to supporting the future of young workers and their development, which is why we welcomed two apprentices to our digital marketing team in 2021. Meet Jacob – our digital marketing and website apprentice – who we sat down with this week to discuss his apprenticeship so far.

Why did you decide to pursue a digital marketing apprenticeship?

I always liked working with computers, and the idea of being able to do that for a job in the form of web design really appealed to me. As I had no official experience or qualifications, working my way through an apprenticeship in the field was a great way to get both qualifications and hands on practice with people who know how the industry works.

What did you do before you started your apprenticeship?

I was undertaking a degree in Computing and IT (software) at the Open University, which I put on hold until I finished my apprenticeship.

What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship so far?

Definitely the adventure and challenge of finding my way in a new career, with the help of my great colleagues.

What’s the plan after your apprenticeship is complete?

I plan to continue working for Work PR, as it is a great agency that has helped me come on leaps and bounds in both my knowledge and skills. I also will be continuing with my degree part time.

What’s your advice for other young people considering an apprenticeship scheme?

It’s an excellent route to start a career in, as it gives you a foot in the door to many opportunities, whilst also paying the bills. Make sure that you turn up ready to learn every aspect of the job and be willing to give your all to make sure that you get the most out of the experience.
