Here at Work PR, some of our team are excited for Eurovision – and some haven’t ever watched it, but we won’t go into this blasphemy! So, this week we’ve been sharing some of our favourite entries from over the years to relive some of the classics, whether they won or not.

Jamie

I have chosen last year second place song, but I believe it should have won. It has been on repeat since last year even though it’s in a different language apart from the chorus which I just ‘cha, cha, cha’.

Jess

I’ve chosen Lordi with Hard Rock Hallelujah; they were not your standard glitzy Eurovision winner, but they are one of the most memorable! They were the first act to ever win for Finland in 2006 and made way for other alternative bands to win at Eurovision such as Måneskin who won in 2021.

Although it didn’t claim top spot in the Eurovision Song Contest, Gina G’s Ooh Aah… Just A Little Bit is my favourite entry. Representing the UK in 1996, the high energy Euro-dance track secured 8th place with 77 points in the contest, but peaked at number one in the UK singles charts in May 1996. The song went on to become the biggest hit of all the 1996 entries, earning Gina a Grammy nomination in 1997 for Best Dance Recording!

The Netherlands song Europapa is my favourite for this year, not only because the Netherlands is my adopted home but because my four-year-old loves it and every time he hears it, he dances his little feet off. It also reminds me of my youth, with its happy hardcore vibe – growing up in the 90’s happy hardcore and raves were a big part of the music scene! The song has a great message about Europe, and he has dedicated it to his parents who died when he was young giving it a sentimental meaning.
I do not usually watch but as the Dutch song has been tipped to win, I may just have to tune in!
